Our story began with a passion for design that ignited curiosity and creativity.

We are fans. We are movers. We are makers. We are passionate teachers and perpetual students. We live in search of that perfect recipe and the final piece of the grand design.

We are a dynamic creative studio. Our approach is collaborative, inquisitive and personable. We are dedicated to building strong, adaptable client relationships.

We are uber nerds for micro-efficiencies, and we take this approach in our work, as well as in the functionality of the spaces we create.

Specialising in eclectic, urban and contemporary styles, our interiors prioritise individuality and functionality, punctuated with mementos and personal touches.

Drawn in by the industrial style of New York loft apartments and the effortlessly cool designs of the modernist era, we love bringing together unconventional influences from all over the world.

An Homage

Did you know our name Bunker is a play on words? It’s partly a tribute to the Filipino bamboo outrigger boat, called a ‘Bangka’. But, it’s mostly a tribute to climbing out onto their skis and singing ‘Wide World’ by Cat Stevens at the top of your lungs into the wind while the boat moves through the crystal blue waters of Palawan in the Philippines. It’s how we spent our youth, and we highly recommend it.

(If you’re saying ‘Bunker’ with an Aussie accent, then you’re saying ‘bangka’ with a Filipino accent).

About the founder

Portrait Kuseah Lawton

Kuseah Lawton

Founder and Principal Designer.

Before launching Bunker Interiors, Kuseah spent 15 years working in live entertainment, touring and managing music festivals. Her eclectic experience, which has also included performing and fine arts, has always lived at the intersection of creativity and commerciality.

Throughout her career, Kuseah never outgrew the insatiable addiction that cemented from rearranging her 12sm childhood bedroom in an effort to optimise her rollerblading space. Interior design had become a quiet remedy and creative outlet, and Kuseah stepped away from live music to pursue her passion.

She has a real interest in the personal brand of a space, and the relationship it has with our own sense of self, our productivity and mindset. Growing up in a home designed by Architect Michael Dysart, developing a love for unconventional and unapologetic dissections and lines, Kuseah gravitates to industrial geometry, authentic materials and the inimitable shapes of modernist design.

She is passionate about helping people create a space that reflects the ingredients of their own personalities and always looks to draw on the authenticity of a space.

A graduate of the Interior Design Institute, Kuseah is Australian-born with Filipino and Northern Irish roots. She likes retro sneakers, street art, product design books and making playlists for obscure milestones. Her favourite artists are Saint Mela, Lowrider and Jessie Reyez and her favourite travel destination has been Central America. She loves fluted glass, vintage prints and anything a little left of centre. She dislikes speaking in the third person.
